THE PROFESSOR'S PATCH UPDATE; THEIR CASA RARA VACAY. MY STAYCAY.

CASA RARA VACAY. MY STAYCAY:

Martha told me a while back she wanted all three boys to come stay with her at some point this summer.

Seriously?

All three?

At one time?

I told her I wasn't sure if she was generous or stupid. HA!

We checked our calendars and decided this week would work for what she has dubbed the boys' Casa RaRa Vacation. So today I met her at the half-way point to drop them off. The boys could not have been more excited about spending a few days with Uncle Keith, RaRa, GaGa and Mags. I barely had the car stopped before they made their way out of my van and buckled into RaRa's ready to go. Mommy who??

And as much as I miss them already and had a lump in my throat watching them drive off, Chris and I are planning on enjoying every minute of our little staycation. No big plans. Just relaxing a bit. Enjoying some peace and quiet. We've always said the best vacation would be the one where we could enjoy some time alone while here at home. Thanks for making that happen, Thin Mint!

PATCH UPDATE:

Grant (or The Professor as Martha calls him) had a follow-up visit with his eye doctor, Dr. Murphy, yesterday. At our first visit in March, his vision was 20/200. When we went back in April, it had improved to 20/80. After patching since April, it has improved to almost 20/40. Praise! We still would like to see more improvement, but we are happy and continue to be optimistic with these results. We will keep patching for the next three to four months - daily for the rest of the summer then after school once it starts back. Dr. Murphy said when a child turns 6 1/2, the body typically stops responding to patching. So we literally have a 3 to 4-month window of opportunity remaining to try to improve Grant's vision for the rest of his life. Please remember him in your prayers. He hates patching. He despises it. The patches bother him, they're uncomfortable, and he obviously cannot see well with it on. We have bought several cloth patches but have been unable to use them for one reason or another, so our only choice is adhesive patches which are basically like a big band-aid.

But even as much as he dislikes wearing the patch, he knows he's benefiting from it and takes it all in stride. He really does have a positive attitude about it. One big plus for him is that Dr. Murphy encourages video games and computer games while patched. And don't think for a second he hasn't used that to his advantage. If he asks to take his patch off and I say yes but that it's time to put the DSi up, he'll say, "I'll patch longer if I can play longer." :) He's a wonderful little human being with a heart of gold. He makes me proud he's mine!
